Lights, Music, Scandal
At the turn of the 20th century, London’s East End was the birthplace and home of the Music Hall, and nobody personified the energy and humour of the halls more than the scandalous Miss Marie Lloyd (Jessie Wallace). A legend in her own lifetime, Marie was known for her bawdy songs as well as her outrageous life style, which included three marriages and an illegitimate child. A tantalising mix of fact, fiction and the fantastical, this poignant portrait paints a rags to riches tale of great public success and an often personal sadness. Featuring her most famous songs, including My Old Man Said Follow The Van, Don’t Dilly Dally On The Way, The Boy I Loved and her theme song A Little Of What You Fancy Does You Good.
