R.I.P. Nora Ephron
Renowned writer/director/producer Nora Ephron has died age 71. Ephron had recently been ill from leukemia, according to various reports. Among her best known works were Silkwood, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail, & Julie and Julia.
Weaving heads down Mystery Road
Aussie actor Hugo Weaving is set to join Aaron Pederson, Ryan Kwanten & Jack Thompson in writer/director Ivan Sen's thriller Mystery Road, Deadline reports. Weaving will play a cop with questionable motives in the film which began shooting this week in central Queensland.
Batman, Superman to appear in LEGO movie
Variety reports that LEGO mini-figure versions of iconic DC superheroes Batman & Superman will appear in Warner's live-action/animated hybrid film LEGO: The Piece of Resistance. Will Arnett will voice Batman, while Channing Tatum is being sought to voice Superman.
Marvel moving ahead with Guardians film?
Bleeding Cool reports that Marvel has filed for 11 trademarks under the title Guardians of the Galaxy, indicating that Marvel Studios may be moving ahead with its proposed Guardians movie. The adaptation will reportedly feature Star-Lord's incarnation of the team who protect the galaxy from various threats.
Popeye to return in 3D CG film
Samurai Jack creator & Hotel Transylvania directror Genndy Tartakovsky is attached to develop & direct a 3D CG animated version of the spinach-loving seaman Popeye for Sony Pictures Animation, Variety reports. The Smurfs screenwriters David Ronn & Jay Scherick are attached to write the script.
O'Brien takes on Internship
Teen Wolf star Dylan O'Brien is set to join Owen Wilson & Vince Vaughn in the cast of Shawn Levy's comedy The Internship for 20th Century Fox, Variety reports. Filming is scheduled to begin today.
Lifetime hires Devious Maids
US cable network Lifetime has picked up Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry's dramedy pilot Devious Maids and given a 13-episode order to the project, Deadline reports. The series was originally developed for the US ABC network but missed the cut.
Sheen becomes President in Machete sequel
Former Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen announced on his Twitter feed that he has joined the cast of director Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills. Sheen will play the President of the United States in the sequel which stars Danny Trejo as Machete.
