Avengers dominates global box office
Marvel's The Avengers has dominated the box office worldwide, surpassing US$640 million this weekend. The superhero ensemble has smashed records including Best All-Time Opening Weekend in numerous countries including the US, the fastest film to reach US$200 million (3 days), & biggest IMAX opening weekend.
R.I.P. George Lindsey
George Lindsey, best-known for playing Goober on The Andy Griffith Show, has passed away in Nashville after a brief illness at age 83. Lindsey also voiced characters in Disney animated features The Aristocats, The Rescuers & Robin Hood.
Hill heads to Wall Street
Jonah Hill is set to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, Deadline reports. The film adapts Jordan Belfort's memoir chronicling his dramatic rise and fall on Wall Street. Hill will play Belfort's close friend who becomes his business partner.
Borgias to return for 3rd season
Showtime has given an early renewal to its Renaissance drama series The Borgias, starring Jeremy Irons. A 10-episode third season is currently slated to premiere in 2013.
Lutz, Locke swing in for Tarzan
Twilight's Kellan Lutz & Resident Evil actress Spencer Locke have been cast in a motion capture 3D re-imagining of Tarzan for Constantin Film, says The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision. Reinhard Klooss & Holger Tappe will direct this update of the classic Edgar Rice Burroghs tale.
CW renews Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, 90210
The CW network has given early renewals to three of its popular dramas The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, & 90210. The Vampire Diaries will return for a fourth season, Supernatural will have an eighth season, & 90210 will get a fifth season.
Starz boards Treasure Island prequel series
Starz has given a straight-to-series order for a pirate adventure drama executive produced by Michael Bay, Deadline reports. Tentatively titled Black Sails, the 8-episode series is a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Treasure Island, chronicling the adventures of fabled buccaneer Captain Flint & his men, including young John Silver.
Pattinson, Pearce drive The Rover
Twilight's Robert Pattinson is joining Aussie actor Guy Pearce in Animal Kingdom director David Michod's The Rover, Variety reports. The story revolves around a man who relentlessly pursues the men who stole his car through the Australian outback.
