Starz boards Treasure Island prequel series
Starz has given a straight-to-series order for a pirate adventure drama executive produced by Michael Bay, Deadline reports. Tentatively titled Black Sails, the 8-episode series is a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Treasure Island, chronicling the adventures of fabled buccaneer Captain Flint & his men, including young John Silver.
Pattinson, Pearce drive The Rover
Twilight's Robert Pattinson is joining Aussie actor Guy Pearce in Animal Kingdom director David Michod's The Rover, Variety reports. The story revolves around a man who relentlessly pursues the men who stole his car through the Australian outback.
Warner to revisit Little Shop of Horrors
Glee co-producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is in early talks with Warner Bros. to write a new version of horror comedy musical Little Shop of Horrors, Variety reports. The Dark Knight Rises co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is circling the lead role of nerdy florist Seymour Krelborn.
Copley to don crown for Maleficent?
Deadline reports that Sharlto Copley is in talks to play the male lead of King Stefan opposite Angelina Jolie in Disney's Maleficent which tells the backstory of Sleeping Beauty.
Pattinson goes on Mission: Blacklist
Twilight's Robert Pattinson is set to star in Mission: Blacklist, Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire's adaptation of Eric Maddox & Davin Seay's novel Mission: Black List #1. The psychological thriller is set to detail the true, inside story of the search for Saddam Hussein.
Hulk to smash in cinemas again?
Following the success of the Avengers movie & co-star Mark Ruffalo's standout performance as the Hulk, Marvel is reportedly reconsidering its plans for another Hulk film. Speaking with Forbes, Marvel rep Paul Glitter said that the Hulk could spin off into a standalone TV program next year followed by a big budget franchise movie in 2015.
Jericho set to return?
TV Guide Magazine reports that Netflix has approached CBS about reviving cult sci-fi series Jericho. The show debuted in 2006 but was axed after only 2 seasons. The show's story was continued in the Jericho: Season 3 - Civil War comic book series from Devil's Due Publishing & IDW and the forthcoming Season 4 series from IDW.
Avengers tops $260m worldwide
The juggernaut that is Marvel's The Avengers continues to roll on with the superhero ensemble film having earned US$260.5 million at the box office thus far around the world. Estimates have the film reaching a potential US$585 million after it opens in North America, Russia & China this weekend.
