2014 Emmy Awards wrap-up
Breaking Bad was the big winner at the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards this week, taking every key category in which it was nominated. As well as winning Best Drama Series, star Bryan Cranston won Best Lead Drama Actor while Anna Gunn and Aaron Paul took out the Best Supporting Drama awards. Julianna Margulies was named Best Lead Drama Actress for The Good Wife. On the Comedy front, Modern Family continued its Emmy success being named Best Comedy Series while Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) were again named Best Comedy Leads.
R.I.P. Richard Attenborough
Veteran actor Richard Attenborough has passed away in England at age 90. Best known for his acting in such films as The Great Escape and Jurassic Park, Attenborough also won the Best Director Oscar in 1983 for Gandhi which also won Best Picture that year. He also acted on stage, including, notably, as one of the original cast members of The Mousetrap in 1952 which set a record for most consecutive performances in London's West End.
New Doctor Who rates high in UK
Peter Capaldi's debut as Doctor Who which aired this weekend was watched by 6.79 million viewers in the UK, sources report. That makes it the series' most-watched opener since 2010.
