Passed over for a promotion due to his violent handling of suspects, Dixon's life is shattered when once again he roughs up a suspected murderer and accidentally kills him. Wild with fear, Dixon attempts to frame an innocent man in order to absolve himself of the crime, but after meeting the victim's breathtaking widow, Morgan, her purity forces him to face his own moral division.

Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney—the stars of Preminger's smash-hit Laura—give beautifully layered performances in Preminger's wonderfully artistic and gripping film. Where the Sidewalk Ends is an undoubted classic.
