Description
Who knows what darkness lurks under the surface?
Often derived from pulp novels, film noir films were under-appreciated on release in most cases, but their reputation among film fans grows exponentially. And each US studio had some stock actors, writers and directors - this box focusses on the output of Universal Studios.
The 4 features included span the years 1942-48, the peak years of the genre. You'll see Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake appear in three films within the box. You'll see The Big Clock, a key work remade years later as the Kevin Costner vehicle, No Way Out.
The box is styled in the dark, moody style of the time, and includes a booklet on the films by Rose Capp. The masters are top quality digital transfers direct from the studio for maximum blacks and whites shades. It's a feast of film noir!
Includes:
The Big Clock, 1948 directed by John Farrow, starring Ray Milland, Charles Laughton
The Glass Key, 1942 directed by Stuart Heisler, starring Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake
The Blue Dahlia, 1946 directed by George Marshall, starring Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake
This Gun For Hire, 1942, directed by Frank Tuttle, starring Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake
