Description
The mercurially talented comedian Tony Hancock returns to DVD with the complete collection of his epoch-making comedy series, Hancock's Half Hour and Hancock.
Celebrate the original British sitcom with this incredible box set.
One of Britain's greatest situation comedies, Hancock's Half Hour is an enduring classic. Marking the shows 50th anniversary this definitive DVD collection features all 39 surviving episodes of the much-loved Hancock's Half-Hour and Hancock.
Originally developed for radio, Hancock's Half Hour kicked off in November 1954, becoming a British, comic-institution for almost two decades. The series made the move to TV in 1957. Tony Hancock's masterful comic timing combined with the sharp wit and fast-paced writing of the legendary Ray Galton and Alan Simpson (Steptoe and Son) ensured the show's outstanding success on the relatively new medium of television.
Each hilarious half-hour episode follows the weekly misfortunes of Anthony Aloysius St John Hancock, the perpetually frustrated resident of 23 Railway Cuttings, East Cheam. The beleaguered hero was partnered with a plethora of comic talent including the infamous Sid James as Hancock's villainous landlord as well as regular guest appearances by other comic luminaries.
This collection includes the final television series aired in 1961 and re-titled Hancock. Some of the most celebrated episodes from the television show feature in this final series, including "The Blood Donor" and "The Radio Ham", where Hancock enters the world of the amateur wireless buff only to find he has to deal with a mayday call from a ship in distress.
This must-have boxset is packed with extras, including John Freeman's infamous soul searching "Face To Face" interview with Hancock; audio commentaries featuring Ray Galton, Alan Simpson and Paul Merton on three episodes, and DVD-ROM missing scripts from Hancock's Half Hour episodes.
