Description
Jim MacLaine is 18 and studying for his advanced level exams. But he finds his book work irksome. So much so that he packs a suitcase, hitches a lift to the coast and soon finds a job. While working at a fairground he is invited to a university dance by his old friend Terry. He finds the people there irritating and 'square' and feels sufficienty 'left out' to quit the fairground and return home. Here he meets again Terry's sister Jeanette. They marry, and when their first borm chicd is born, Jim seems content. But it is not long before he once again walks out in search of freedom and irresponsibility.
