Description
An Australian Easy Rider, Stone is a wild combination of biker movie, gore flick, whodunit, action film and remains the best known cult exploitation film of the 70s. Writer, producer and director Sandy Harbutt also stars, giving a ferocious performance as the Grave Diggers’ leader, The Undertaker, alongside Hugh Keays-Byrne, who played the chief villain Toecutter in that other classic Aussie road movie, Mad Max. Ken Shorter as the eponymous Stone is brilliant, while a 19 year-old Rebecca Gilling (Return to Eden) cuts a striking figure as the biker’s mole. The soundtrack is a masterpiece of Australian progressive and pub rock.
