Description
Some countries have a medal for Everything.
Two of the twentieth century's greatest film legends share centre-stage in the delightful romantic comedy The Prince and the Showgirl written by Terence Rattigan. The Crown Prince of Carpathia (Laurence Olivier) is in London for the coronation of George V in 1911 and is introduced to American showgirl Elsie Marina (Marilyn Monroe). While Elsie falls in love with the charming if stuffy Prince, it becomes clear that he is only interested in seducing the naive actress, who duly protests.
But thanks to his meddling mother-in-law (Sybil Thorndike) their paths continue to cross, to the chagrin of Elsie's boss whom has herself fallen for the Prince's charms in the past. When he finally falls head-over-monocle for Elsie, the Prince must decide whether to allow love to enter his duty-bound existence, while Elsie is going to discover if happily-ever-after ever really comes true.
