Description
The Hustler:
Paul Newman is electrifying as Fast Eddie Felson, an arrogant, amoral hustler who haunts back street pool rooms fleecing anyone who’ll pick up a cue. Determined to be the best, Eddie seeks out the legendary Minnesota Fats (Gleeson), who’s backed by Bert Gordon (Scott). The love of a lonely woman (Laurie) could turn Eddie’s life around but he won’t rest until he beats Minnesota Fats – no mater what the price he must pay.
Hombre:
John Russell (Newman), a whit man raised by an Arizonan band of Apaches, is forced to confront the society he despises when he sells the boarding house that his father has left him. While leaving town by Stagecoach, several bigoted passengers insist that he ride with the driver. But when outlaws leave them all starnded in the desert, Russell may be their only hope for survival.
The Verdict:
Sidney Lumet’s riveting courtroom drama earned 5 Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Actor for Paul Newman’s towering performance as a down-and-out alcoholic attorney who stumbles on one last chance to redeem himself. When attorney Frank Galvin (Paul Newman) is given an open & shut medical malpractice case that noone thinks he can win, he courageously decides to refuse a settlement from the hospital. Instead, he takes the case and the entire legal system, as well, to court.
Exodus:
Adapted from Leon Uris’ international bestseller by Dalton Trumbo, Otto Preminger's Exodus is an exciting, panoramic and deeply moving masterpiece. Ari Ben Canaan (Paul Newman), a commander of the Israeli underground, manages to lead 600 Jews from the detention camps of Cyprus onto a large freighter bound for Palestine. But British forces soon learn of his plan and insist that he turn back. Undaunted, Ari and his passengers refuse to give up, risking their lives for the greater cause of Israeli independence...
Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid:
Butch and Sundance are the two leaders of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang. Butch is all ideas, Sundance is all action and skill. The west is becoming civilized and when Butch and Sundance rob a train once too often, a special posse begins trailing them no matter where they run. Over rock, through towns, across rivers, the group is always just behind them. When they finally escape through sheer luck, Butch has another idea, "Let's go to Bolivia".
