Myth of the American Sleepover, The

A dreamy coming of age story at once set in the moment and yet altogether timeless, The Myth of the American Sleepover explores the story strands of four starry eyed young people in suburban Detroit on the last weekend of summer. There’s the college student who returns home looking to reignite feelings he felt for twin sisters. A new student unfamiliar to anyone at a sleepover makes out with the host’s boyfriend and the romantic who spots a blonde in a grocery store and spends the rest of the film trying to find her.

Featuring a cast consisting largely of non-professionals the movie establishes a nostalgia for youth as it nears maturity in a world devoid of parents or rules and dire consequences.
