Description
Mozart wrote his opera 'Don Giovanni' on behalf of the city of Prague, and he also conducted the first night on October 29th, 1787. Another premiere followed in the year 1791: the opera 'Titus', conducted by Mozart as well.
The Prague National Theater is therefore the only existing theatre in which Mozart himself conducted two premieres. Between 1983 and 1991, the theatre was carefully restored to it's original look. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Mozart's death, and in the prescence of Czech president Vaclav Havel, the first night of 'Don Giovanni', conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras, was held in the newly restored building.
