Miami's newest tattoo artists open their shop and meet their new apprentice – Yoji Harada, an inexperienced inker who's eager to learn all that he can. The shop's first client, world-class surfer Sonny Garcia, drops by and asks for a map of his native Hawaii tattooed across his abdomen.
A series of poignant tales illustrate the power of imagery – highlighted by a mother and daughter who want to cement their bond by getting tattooed together. Plus, Yoji succumbs to his own emotions and proposes to his girlfriend.
In Memory Of…
Memories come flooding back as a number of clients seek tattoos to honour lost loved ones – including an old friend of Ami who lost his cousin. Plus, newlywed Yoji starts building new memories with his bride, Bridgette.
The guys take a break from the pressures of running their own shop for a look back at how they became friends, travelled the country, and returned to South Beach.
Yoji learns the hard way that he has plenty of work to do before the guys will let him tattoo for real. Meanwhile, a constant flow of clients keeps the chairs full – including Adrienne, the shop's first return customer, and rocker Phil Verone, former member of Skid Row.
Yoji and Bridgette give birth to their first daughter, and the guys happily wonder if they'll soon be taking on a second apprentice.
Going for the Gold
Mark Zupan, the Olympic athlete featured in the documentary Murderball, visits the shop. His tattoo of choice seems mundane, but his story inspires everyone. Plus, all of the artists in the shop pitch in to create a complex eagle tattoo, and Yoji inks his very first piece of skin art – a simple cherry blossom.
Disaster strikes when Darren fractures his elbow – placing him on the sidelines for eight weeks. Guest artist Kat, a friend of Garver's from Finland, immediately fits right in.
Kat's in the Groove
Kat finds herself really settling into the shop. As a sign of friendship, Darren asks her to tattoo a Virgin Mary on his wife's forearm. Plus, Kat's husband stops by to show off his full-body suit of art.
Ami exacerbates an old back injury and learns that balancing business and pleasure is the key to success in life. Plus, a client of Japanese heritage asks for a tattoo from Yoji, the apprentice – which raises some eyebrows among the shop's established artists.
