Mrs Flax (Cher) is a free-spirited, independent woman with two children, Charlotte (Winona Ryder) and Kate (Christina Ricci). The things is, Mrs Flax doesn't like sticking around a place when one of her relationships fail, and so the family have been moving around the country all of their lives. When they arrive in East Port Mrs Flax finds herself falling for the local shoe shop owner (Bob Hoskins). Only this time it is not only Mrs Flax who has fallen in love, but also her daughter Charlotte.
This is one of the most understated coming-of-age feel-good films, which was made all the better because of its excellent cast. Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci both won international film awards for their performances.
