Lena Baker Story, The

Description

The Lena Baker Story is the true-life story of the first woman to be sent to the electric chair in Georgia for the murder of her employer, who forced her into sexual slavery.

Taking place in the early 1900’s through 1945 in Cuthbert, Georgia, this is a story of one woman’s desperate attempts to rise above the challenges of life, the choices she makes, and the consequences of those choices. When, at the very moment she thinks she has overcome her inner demons, she is unfortunately induced and pressured to work for Elliot Arthur, a father, a millworker and a raging drunk. As their highly strange relationship unfolds, it becomes extremely strained, and totally unacceptable for that time. While they both seem to need each other, Elliot Arthur continually abuses Lena and imprisons her in his home, to keep her from her children. In a final desperate attempt to break free of his bondage, a violent struggle ensues, one hot, humid night in Southwest Georgia in 1945 - and Elliot Arthur, a white man, is shot by Lena Baker, an African-American woman...
