Before Underbelly and Wildside there was Janus, a ground breaking television series that secured a name for itself in the pantheon of Australian drama produced during the 1990's Janus combined distinctive visual techniques with a strong emphasis on dialogue to widespread critical acclaim.

Janus, originally broadcast on ABC TV in 1994, tackles the subject of the Australian legal system and its mechanisms, with a focus on the minutiae of procedures and courtroom dialogue.

In the first volume of Janus, we are reaquainted with hard nosed detective Peter faithful (Simon Westaway). In the final episode of Phoenix series Two, Faithful's detective unit was disbanded. In Janus, we find him working in a criminal investigation branch, witnessing first hand the frailties of the courts. In his new post, Faithful is exposed to the frustrations and intricacies of the legal system as he and the other members of the unit try to convict the Hennesy's a family of criminals suspected of a major bank job.
