Carmen On Ice

This tragic story is set in Seville, Spain, circa 1830, and concerns the eponymous Carmen, a beautiful Gypsy with a fiery temper. Free with her love, she woos the corporal Don José, an inexperienced soldier. Although briefly happy with Carmen, Don José falls into madness when she turns from him to the bullfighter Escamillo. From the rejection of his former love to mutiny against his superior, Don José turns to a criminal life, and ultimately, out of jealousy, murders Carmen.

This sizzling dramatisation is set to the passionate strains of Bizet’s beloved opera in a special arrangement by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. A first-of-its-kind combination of figure skating, drama, music and dance and the most lavish production of its kind ever, Carmen On Ice was shot with a $3.5 million budget on location in Seville, Spain on a portable synthetic ring contoured and coloured to blend in with the city’s streets.
