Description
Series 1:
The Aunty Jack Show burst onto Australian television screens in the nineteen seventies. There had never been anything like Aunty Jack. Grahame Bond’s outrageous character, the bikie and self proclaimed “Queen of Wollongong,” was the antithesis of television presenting. A moustachioed hostess who threatened to jump out of viewer’s television sets and rip their bloody arms off, if they didn’t watch the following week. They watched. As we hope you will. Aunty Jack and her cast of characters, Thin Arthur, Narrator Neville and Flange Desire brought a new sense of humour to our screens - irreverent, bizarre, full of original music (a rarity for a comedy series) and uniquely Australian.
Series 2:
Series Two of the Aunty Jack Show is purchased by Channel Nine, but upper management don’t like Aunty and want her replaced by a transvestite. This results in some serious arm ripping. Aunty Jack leaves for London (aka North Wollongong) with butcher Kev who does a gig with the Grenadier guards. Disaster strikes when Aunty Jack accidentally eats her little friends, Arthur, Flange and Kid Eager. To escape they dynamite their way out of her. The series won a Logie for best comedy in 1974. Maybe the judges thought it was a Channel Nine show? All the old favourites are back... Neil and Errol The Farrelly Brothers, Kev Kevanagh, Mervyn Whipple and some new characters: Norman Gunston and Kid Eager.
