Description
Sensational Seventies:
'Sensational' - Part of the Oxford Dictionary's explanation for the word suggests 'a stirring of the emotions of many people'. If the '70s didn't arouse and preserve the interest of people throughout our great country, then no decade has, for this chapter in the history of football was indeed sensational. This era of football will live long in the memory. It saw the game progress from black and white to colour on our television screens, and it produced marvelous highlights on the field of dreams. From Richmond's back-to-back flags in '73 - '74, to the stirring Grand Final of 1977 and the emotion charged replay, to the spending spree at Arden Street which saw the Roos emerge as a VFL power, the '70s had it all.
Electrifying 80's:
It's not until you actually sit down and relive those great ELECTRIFYING '80s year by year that the myriad of memories come flooding back. Trying to work out which was the greatest highlight of the decade is the hardest part, but they're all here. 'Jezza' leaving the Blues for St. Kilda; the Phil Carmen incident; the 1980 night Grand Final; the arrival of Peter Bosustow and Ken Hunter to Carlton; the Melbourne splurge which netted Ron Barassi, Peter Moore and Kelvin Templeton; the interstate sides; the debut of Dermott Brereton; Kevin Bartlett's 400th game; the infamous Army Reserves Cup game featuring John Bourke, so eloquently called by Ray Jordon - and so much more.
The 90's - The Decade that Delivered:
It was the decade that changed the face of football as we knew it. There would be three new teams: Adelaide, Fremantle and Port Adelaide. We would farewell Fitzroy and watch others like Footscray, Richmond,, Melbourne and Hawthorn battle for their existence. for the first time non-Victorian clubs would take premiership honors. West Coast won twice and Adelaide won back to back flags against the odds. It was a decade in which the feats of goal-kicking maestros Jason Dunstall and Gary Ablett were overshadowed by the record breaker Tony Lockett.
